Aspects

What is an aspect?

An aspect is a smaller group housed under Bayanihan that caters to the interest of each member, and allows members to become further involved. There are 13 aspects in total: 4 non-performing aspects and 9 performing aspects. Performing aspects practice throughout the whole school year to put together PCC, a yearly production where we celebrate our Filipino culture as well as raise awareness on pressing issues in our community. You do not need any experience to join an aspect, and all are welcome!

A Step Forward (ASF) is a student initiated outreach program housed under Bayanihan and is part of Engaging Education. We reach out to Pilipinx high school students, we focus on depicting a peer-to-peer perspective of the student experience on this campus, and advocating the pursuit of higher education. We host a three-day event providing students with a chance to meet fellow admitted students to the university, as well as make connections with current UCSC students. It is also a chance to get important information on transitioning smoothly into the university. Workshops, tours, discussion, and networking opportunities allow participants to discover the importance of higher education, and highlight the communities and resources available to them in Bayanihan and at the UC overall.

By implementing a family system of mentorship it allows for people to connect on different levels in hopes of individuals finding other individuals that remind them of comfort and of home, which can encourage them to stay in school. Through academic support, social events, and an overall learning experience. Tech crew is the aspect that is in charge of the set design, props and stage management for the annual Pilipino Cultural Celebration. During the show, tech crew become "ninjas" as they move set pieces behind the scenes to help make the show run as smoothly as possible. Bayanihan Tech Crew recognizes the vast diversity of our community by allowing everyone, even those who prefer not to perform on-stage or do not feel comfortable performing, to be a part of the production of PCC and creating another outlet for community members to be a part of.
